How to Speed Up and Slow Down Video (Step-by-Step Guide)

Step 1: Open Your Project

  1. Open the CapCut app.
  2. Create a new project or open your existing one.
  3. Import your video into the timeline.

Step 2: Remove the Watermark

  1. Scroll to the end of the timeline.
  2. Tap on the watermark clip.
  3. Select Delete from the tools panel.

Your project is now clean and ready for editing.

Step 3: Trim the Extra Part of the Video

  1. Play the video and pause where you want it to end.
  2. Tap on the clip.
  3. Select Split.
  4. Tap on the unwanted portion.
  5. Tap Delete.

You can also trim by dragging the right edge of the clip inward to remove extra footage.

Step 4: Create a Specific Split Point

  1. Move the timeline marker to the exact point where you want to split.
  2. Tap on the clip.
  3. Select Split.

Your video is now divided into separate parts for individual editing.

Step 5: Zoom In and Zoom Out on the Timeline

  • To zoom in:
  • Place two fingers on the timeline and spread them apart.
  • To zoom out:
  • Place two fingers on the timeline and pinch them together.

This helps you edit more precisely.

Step 6: Speed Up a Clip (Normal Speed Option)

  1. Tap on the clip you want to adjust.
  2. Go to the tools panel.
  3. Select Speed.
  4. Choose Normal.

Now adjust the speed slider:

  • Less than 1x = Slow motion
  • More than 1x = Fast motion

Examples:

  • 0.7x = Slightly slow
  • 1.5x = Medium fast
  • 2x = Very fast

Select your desired speed and tap the check mark to confirm.

Step 7: Slow Down a Specific Part

  1. Split the video at the point where slow motion should begin.
  2. Split again where it should end.
  3. Select only that middle portion.
  4. Go to Speed → Normal.
  5. Reduce the speed (for example, 0.7x).
  6. Tap the check mark to apply.

Step 8: Make Slow Motion Smoother

  1. Tap on the slowed clip.
  2. Go to Speed → Normal.
  3. Select the smooth motion option.
  4. Choose between:
  5. Faster Process (quick but lower quality)
  6. Better Quality (slower processing but smoother result)
  7. Select Better Quality for professional results.
  8. Tap the check mark and wait for rendering to complete.

Final Result

After completing these steps:

  • Your video is trimmed properly.
  • Specific sections are split correctly.
  • Some parts are sped up.
  • Some parts are slowed down smoothly.
  • High-quality slow motion is applied.

Your video is now ready with professional speed adjustments.
