How to Add Background Music, Sound Effects & Extract Audio (Step-by-Step Guide)

Step 1: Open Your Project

  1. Open the CapCut app.
  2. Create a new project or open an existing one.
  3. Import your video into the timeline.
  4. Remove the watermark by tapping on it and selecting Delete.

Method 1: Add Audio from the Tools Panel

Step 2: Open the Audio Section

  1. Tap on the Audio option from the tools panel.
  2. You will see multiple options:
  3. Extract
  4. Sounds
  5. Sound Effects
  6. Record
  7. Text to Audio

Step 3: Add Background Music (Sounds)

  1. Tap on Sounds.
  2. Browse available background music.
  3. Tap on any music to preview it.
  4. Tap the Plus (+) icon to add it to your project.

The music will now appear as a separate audio layer under your video.

Step 4: Adjust Background Music

  1. Tap on the added audio layer.
  2. You can now:
  3. Increase or decrease volume
  4. Add Fade In
  5. Add Fade Out
  6. Apply audio effects
  7. Split the audio
  8. Drag the edges of the audio layer to trim it if needed.

Step 5: Add Music from Your Device

  1. Go to Audio → From Device.
  2. Select music stored on your mobile.
  3. Tap the Plus (+) icon to add it to your timeline.

Step 6: Add Sound Effects

  1. Tap on Audio → Sound Effects.
  2. Browse the sound effects library.
  3. Use the search bar if needed (for example, search for “car”).
  4. Tap on a sound effect to preview it.
  5. Tap the Plus (+) icon to add it to your project.

The sound effect will appear as a separate layer in the timeline.

Step 7: Move and Adjust Sound Effects

  1. Tap and hold the audio layer.
  2. Drag it left or right to position it exactly where needed.
  3. Tap on it to:
  4. Adjust volume
  5. Split
  6. Delete unwanted parts

Step 8: Extract Audio from a Video

  1. Tap on Audio → Extract.
  2. Select the video from which you want to extract sound.
  3. Tap Add.

The extracted audio will appear as a separate layer under your video.

You can now:

  • Delete the original audio
  • Adjust volume
  • Split or trim the extracted audio

Step 9: Record Voice Over

  1. Tap on Audio → Record.
  2. Press and hold the record button to record your voice.
  3. Release to stop recording.

Your voiceover will be added as a new audio layer.

Final Result

After completing these steps:

  • Background music is added.
  • Sound effects are placed correctly.
  • Audio is extracted fromthe video if needed.
  • Volume and fade settings are adjusted.
  • Voiceover is recorded and synced properly.

Your video now includes fully customized and professionally managed audio.
